Why metal pieces

Metal gives the pieces a pleasant weight and natural stability on the board. Silver and copper, antique bronze or gold finishes catch the light and age well. Our pieces are made of metal alloy (zinc alloy when the manufacturer says so) and most sit on a felt pad that protects the board.

Our models

  • 30 cm folding wooden case, in antique bronze or gold and silver, king 6.3 to 6.7 cm.
  • 30.5 cm wooden set with drawer, silver and copper pieces and 2 extra queens.
  • 38 cm folding lacquered board, 7.6 cm king, interior storage.
  • 36 cm wooden board with a slot for each piece under the removable board.
  • 40 cm minimalist design, geometric gold pieces on a black veined board.

Metal and square size

Metal pieces are often a little smaller than wooden pieces at the same price: metal is dense. Check the king height on the product page and compare it with the square size. On the 36 cm board, for example, the squares are 3 cm for a 6.3 cm king: mainly a display set.

What metal are the pieces made of?

A metal alloy, zinc on the models where the manufacturer specifies it, with silver, copper, bronze or gold finishes depending on the model. We don't sell solid brass pieces.

Are the metal pieces heavy?

Heavier than wooden or plastic pieces of the same size, which makes them stable. The exact weight is given on the product page when it is available.

Does the metal tarnish?

The finishes are protected. Avoid damp and greasy fingers, and dust them dry: the pieces will keep their shine.
