Why store your pieces in a box
Left loose in a drawer, pieces knock together, get scratched and end up getting lost. A box keeps them together, safe from dust, and sits neatly on a shelf. It is also the natural companion to a roll-up board, which has no built-in storage.
Our box
The box measures 25 × 15 × 9 cm, in unfinished wood with a hinged lid and a small gold-coloured clasp. It is sold singly or in a pack of 2. Before ordering, compare these outside dimensions with the size of your pieces, especially for tournament pieces with a 9.5 cm king. The unfinished wood can be waxed or stained if you want to match it to your board.
Other storage options
To carry your pieces, a storage bag is lighter. And if you want a set that stores its own pieces, choose a folding wooden chess set with interior storage, or one with drawers. To replace pieces, see our Staunton pieces.
Personalising the box
Unfinished wood lends itself well to personalisation: a clear wax protects it without changing its colour, a stain brings it closer to the colour of a dark wooden board. Always test the product on the bottom of the box before applying it everywhere. The pack of 2 boxes also lets you separate the white and black pieces, handy for setting up faster.
